Mahmud Husain

A lot of Mahmud’s early influences came from Santiniketan, and the vibrant art community in and around it. He draws inspiration from the art work of Rabindranath Tagore as well as the simplicity of K.G Subramanyan, Bhupen Khakkar and Arpita Singh. These influences are visible in Mahmud’s strikingly figurative work, with bold lines and colours setting his paintings apart. His surreal paintings bring to mind human relationships, childhood memories, fleeting reveries, interconnected existences and shades of nostalgia.
